Getting your feet wet

Starting out in the wild world of phishing can be a bit intimidating.

Here are some quick and easy tips to get you started!

1. The ball starts in your court.

When attempting to gain a large sum of money from a potential target, always send them money first. This leads them to believe that you are honest and have legitimate propositions.

2. Offer realistic sums of money.

Don't promise millions when you can't pay out more than a couple thousand.

3. Build a foundation of trust.

Trust is an essential aspect of the phishing process and can be established by bonding with your target. Share personal anecdotes that convey unique details about yourself in order to make them more likely to reciprocate. Using your real name can greatly speed up this part of the process.

4. Be recognizable.

Psychological studies show that people become more trusting when they see faces. You will want to meet them in person as soon as possible to begin imprinting upon them. Once they can easily spot you amongst a crowd or line of people, you'll know you're ready.

5. Be easy to reach.

Be in their legal jurisdiction. Make sure there are robust anti-fraud laws, so your mark feels comfortable dealing with you. Ensure that they have your phone number and mailing address so that they can easily contact you when they've decided to share personal information. Otherwise, you'll have gone through all this trouble for no reason!
